What do they do?
Ageing, worry, frown or laughter lines deepen with time and will eventually remain even when our facial muscles are relaxed. In essence, Botulinum Toxin type A is a muscle relaxant that is injected into the muscles or deep into the skin that reduces the contraction of the muscles. This in turn gives the skin a chance to repair itself by laying down new collagen.
What can I expect?
The cosmetic result is that the skin surface becomes smooth and unwrinkled, while the underlying facial muscles contract normally leaving facial expressions unaffected. The initial effects of treatment are usually seen within a week, but it can take up to two weeks to reach its maximum effect. Initial treatments of anti-wrinkle injections typically last 3-4 months, but this is dependant on individual factors such as age and lifestyle. However, the more regularly you keep up with treatments then the longer they will last, potentially resulting in a 6 month or more gap between treatments.
Will I look frozen?
The results that you want to achieve will be discussed with you during your free consultation. Whilst the "frozen" look is possible, many of our clients are now opting for a more natural, softened look. Whatever it is you want to achieve from your anti-wrinkle treatment, we are here to advise and support you through the process to ensure that your treatment plan meets your desired effect.
Is it safe?
Botulinum Toxin Type A is a prescription only product that should only be administered by a suitably qualified professional i.e. a Nurse, Dentist or Doctor. Also, as with any prescription only product, not everybody may be suitable for this treatment. So, it should only be prescribed based on the outcome of a thorough and professional consultation.
Although anti-wrinkle injections have relatively few side effects or known clinical interactions with other prescribed medications, it is imperative that you have the information to make an informed decision prior to commencing any treatment. Michelle prides herself on her professional and thorough consultation service that will not only empower you with the information you need, but will also help you to establish realistic expectations as to the outcome of your treatment.
What happens during the treatment?
Treatment with anti-wrinkle injections takes approximately 15 minutes, is virtually painless and requires no “rest time” post treatment.
What happens after the treatment?
As the full effects of anti-wrinkle injections can take up to two weeks, when your initial treatment is booked you will also be booked in for a free two-week follow-up appointment to ensure that the treatment has achieved the outcome that was agreed in your treatment plan. It's sometimes necessary to give a small “top-up” at this appointment to achieve the desired effect. However, this is strictly subject to clinical need, which will be determined by your A.M. Revive Practitioner. Please note that should any “top-ups” be required there are no additional charges.
Are there any side effects?
As one of the most frequently used treatments in aesthetic medicine, Botulinum Toxin Type A is widely recognised as a low risk product. However, as with any treatment and prescription only product, there are associated side effects. The most common ones are redness and swelling at the injection sites. Other side effects include headaches and in some instances drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid.
How often will I need to have the treatment done?
The effects of anti-wrinkle injections typically last 3-4 months. Most patients find that in their first year of treatment they require the treatment to be repeated every 3 months. However, regular treatment in that first year gives your skin an opportunity to repair itself by laying down new collagen, so the effect of subsequent treatments should then start to last for longer and treatment times can be extended to 4-monthly or longer. We are committed to the highest professional standards and will not administer treatment that is costly and clinically unnecessary.
